NFL 2018/19

Everyone’s hunting for the Eagles Crown

With under a month (at the time of writing) until the American Football season is due to start each of the 32 teams will hope to still be playing in February at the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome in Atlanta, Georgia. Last year’s winners, The Philadelphia Eagles, will be hoping for a repeat of last year, where despite losing superstar QB Carson Wentz to a season ending ACL injury against the Rams, Nick Foles emerged as an unlikely star and guided the Eagles to their first Lombardi Trophy victory.

Their 41-33 triumph over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots is not a result to be sniffed at. The match turned into a shootout and was defined by some improbable plays orchestrated by the Eagle’s plethora of stars. None of the experts expected Foles to match Brady, and that is exactly what he did, although he threw for less yards he made every clutch play he was required to make, and even took home a 4th down pass into a touchdown for himself, whereas given the same opportunity Brady let the same opportunity slip from his grasp.

An unlikely Super Bowl MVP

Not content with resting on their already stacked side, the Eagles have continued to strengthen this offseason. However they reside in an incredibly stacked NFC in which a range of sides will expect nothing less than a Championship win and a Super Bowl appearance.  The NFC is easily the dominant conference.

One of the biggest contenders to the Eagles’ throne is the LA Rams. the only way to describe their offseason is “the rich got richer” and the Rams look to be completely unfairly stacked. A defensive line which already had a future Hall of Famer has added the elite Ndamukong Suh, and Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib are in the same secondary. Totally unfair on opposing offenses. The Rams have built a monster on both sides of the ball.

The New Orleans Saints are another side hoping to top the NFC. Led by the veteran presence of Drew Brees, the Saints have the right blend of youth and experience including last years Offensive and Defensive rookies of the year, Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore.

Now the defense is up to scratch and New Orleans aren’t going to need the arm of Brees to throw for 30+ points every week, they have a very good chance to figure in Atlanta in February. They went deep last year and would have advanced to the Championship game had not been for a horror final play against Minnesota.

There isn’t a more feared running back duo in the NFL than Ingram and Kamara.

The AFC is a whole different story, and it feels like you can pencil in a Pittsburgh Steelers v New England Patriots title game already. As long as the Steelers have the Killer B’s they’re going to win this division. Antonio Brown is a the top receiver in the league, Le’Veon Bell is the best running back in the NFL, and Ben Roethlisberger is the second-best quarterback in the conference.

After the horror injury suffered by Ryan Shazier, the Steelers did well to pick up linebacker Jon Bostic in free agency which filled a massive need and nab safety Terrell Edmunds in the draft.

Bell, Brown and Roethlisberger – The best QB, WR, RB trio in the league by far!

The Patriots are set for an interesting year. With Belicheck calling the shots and Brady behind the line of scrimmage you’d be brave to predict anything less than a Superbowl appearance. The Patriots have had at least 13 wins in four of the past nine seasons, and looking at the rest of the division, you wouldn’t bet against them making it 10 straight.

However the Patriot Way does seem to be crumbling a bit. The loss of Nate Solder can’t be underestimated, when you add this to the other talent they have lost this year; Malcolm Butler, Danny Amendola, Brandin Cooks, Cam Fleming, Dion Lewis and Matt Patricia any other team would be likely struggle… but this is the Patriots and there is still plenty of talent around the camp.
