Sporting calendar over the festive season

We enjoy the festive period at Finders Keepers, and time that isn’t enjoyed with family or friends can often be filled with a feast of sporting action that precedes New Year. With this packed schedule comes a host of opportunities to entertain business contacts – be they existing suppliers and clients, or potential partners of the future. Here we take a look at some of the best December action on British shores.

3rd: Rugby Union – England v Australia at Twickenham

New Zealand are undisputedly the best side in the world at present, but either of these two sides make a good case for second best. While England will be buoyed by their recent series win Down Under ahead of this international, the painful World Cup defeat of 2015 will still be fresh in the mind for some. Can Eddie Jones’ men continue their encouraging run of form against the Wallabies?

10th: Boxing – Anthony Joshua defends his IBF heavyweight title in Manchester

The titan of the sporting universe, Anthony Joshua’s tests are becoming sterner as he aims to keep hold of his heavyweight title belt, and an unbeaten record. The opponent is yet to be named, but make no mistake – the next chapter is always the most important in the AJ story.

16-20th: Cricket – England’s tour of India: 5th Test, Chennai

There is something heavenly about watching cricket from a tropical part of the world as rain or snow falls outside in the UK. England face the challenge of a five match series in India, which will conclude with their visit to the southern city of Chennai.

19th: Football – Everton vs Liverpool

Typically feisty and ferociously fought, the resurgence of Everton under new manager Ronald Koeman this year and Liverpool’s title-chasing form means that the Merseyside derby on the 19th is one of the most hotly anticipated in a long time.

31st: Football – Liverpool vs Man City

It all started so well for Pep Guardiola in his new position as City helmsman, but it seems that now the honeymoon is over. Do City have what it takes to bring the Premier League title back to the Etihad this season? Many questions will be answered by their New Year’s Eve visit to Anfield, where Liverpool are optimistic of being in contention for their first domestic league title since 1990.
